Casuarina Square Launches ‘Next Is Now’ Redevelopment to Shape the Future of Darwin Retail

Casuarina Square has today announced the launch of a significant redevelopment project, with construction commenced on 21 July 2025. Branded under the campaign “Next Is Now,” this milestone marks the next evolution of Darwin’s largest shopping and lifestyle destination.
Designed to enhance customer convenience and deliver meaningful community benefits, the redevelopment will include expanded undercover parking and Woolworths Direct-to-Boot service.
“The ‘Next Is Now’ campaign reflects our commitment to future-focused progress,” added Dustie Tare, Marketing Manager at Casuarina Square. “It’s about showing our community that positive change is not something to wait for — it’s already happening, and it’s happening here.”
This project forms part of a broader investment in the long-term growth of both Casuarina Square and the Darwin region, driving local job creation, supporting economic development, and reinforcing the centre’s position as a key destination for shopping, dining, and community connection.
“This redevelopment is about creating a more accessible, comfortable, and modern experience for our customers,” said Elysia Billingham, Centre Manager at Casuarina Square. “With construction beginning this month, we’re excited to take the next step in shaping a centre that reflects the evolving needs of the Top End.”
Key Features of the Redevelopment:
- Expanded Undercover Parking – More shaded parking bays will offer greater protection from the elements and improve access all year round.
- Woolworths Direct-to-Boot – Purpose-built infrastructure will enable online grocery orders to be delivered straight to customers’ vehicles
- Revitalised Public Spaces – A fully weather-protected Quarter, enhanced outdoor and communal areas, improved accessibility, and upgraded family-friendly facilities.
- New Dining and Entertainment Options – An expanded mix of retailers in The Quarter, offering more places to eat, shop, and connect.
The redevelopment is scheduled for completion in mid-2026, with Casuarina Square remaining fully operational throughout construction.
Progress updates and community engagement opportunities will be shared regularly via the centre’s digital channels.
Casuarina Square Joins Darwin Street Art Festival with Striking Murals by Renowned Artist Jordan Lucky
Casuarina Square Joins Darwin Street Art Festival with Striking Murals by Renowned Artist Jordan Lucky
Casuarina Square has joined forces with the Darwin Street Art Festival 2025 to bring two spectacular murals to life along Trower Road, painted by renowned Australian street artist Jordan Lucky. The bold new artworks feature the Nankeen Kestrel and Australasian Figbird—two native bird species that celebrate the rich flora and fauna of the region.
These birds are not only striking representations of the Territory’s natural landscape but also powerful symbols of freedom, vibrancy and connection—values that reflect the spirit of Casuarina Square and the broader Darwin community.
“Darwin is a street art city now. We’re excited to be working with Casuarina Square again this year to add more colour to the walls, and we hope you enjoy Jordan’s new work!” – David Collins, Director, Darwin Street Art Festival
Jordan Lucky, whose large-scale works have reimagined streets across Europe, Asia and Australia, returns to the Top End for his second consecutive year with the festival. Raised in Newcastle and immersed in art from the age of 14, Lucky is known for blending nature with urban environments through his signature use of bold colour and emotional depth.
“As someone who grew up hearing wonderful stories of Darwin and the Territory’s kindness from my father, to now be invited up here two dry seasons in a row is a gift! I’m up here doing what I love, feeling supported, bringing vibrancy and life through paintings of Australiana—it’s just so beautiful. I feel incredibly lucky to be working with Casuarina Square on another iconic project, and I can’t wait to add my colourful touch to the centre.” – Jordan Lucky, Artist
Casuarina Square’s commitment to fostering a creative, inclusive and distinctly Territorian space is at the heart of this project.
“We’re thrilled to partner with the Darwin Street Art Festival to bring these stunning murals to Casuarina Square. These large-scale works, featuring the vibrant Australasian Figbird and the majestic Nankeen Kestrel, celebrate our unique Territory wildlife and tropical landscape. Set against bold, energetic colours inspired by the Top End, the murals will transform Trower Road into a vibrant visual welcome for the community. This project is part of our ongoing commitment to create a shopping centre that reflects the spirit of the Territory—colourful, creative and proudly local.” – Elysia Billingham, Centre Manager, Casuarina Square
The murals are expected to be completed by late June and will remain a permanent part of Casuarina Square’s evolving landscape.

Casuarina Square Launches “Your Cas, Your Way” - A Fresh Look, Real Stories, and Creative Partnership with Local Agency Going North
Casuarina Square is proud to launch its new brand campaign, Your Cas, Your Way – a bold and authentic celebration of local life in the Top End. Launching 1 July, the campaign introduces a refreshed visual identity and a renewed focus on community-first storytelling, marking a new chapter for the centre as it evolves alongside the people who call it home.
At the heart of the campaign is a creative collaboration with Going North, a Darwin-based agency renowned for its culturally conscious, place-led narratives. Founded by proud Larrakia man Shaun Edwards, the team brings a distinct Territory voice and creative flair grounded deeply in community.
“We’re incredibly excited to launch Your Cas, Your Way,” said Elysia Billingham, Centre Manager at Casuarina Square. “This campaign puts our community front and centre – their stories, their lifestyle, their Cas. The people of Casuarina are the heart of the campaign because they’re the heart of the centre.
We see ourselves as the heart of the community, and it was important for us to work with local creatives who truly understand and reflect that. Going North was the perfect fit.”
Going North worked closely with Casuarina Square to capture the true spirit of its community — from a longtime Greek elder who can be found in the food court every morning, to a mum raising her children with Casuarina at her core, to a young sports enthusiast. These real stories come to life through visuals, videos, and stills.
The campaign captures real stories from across the Casuarina community – from a Greek elder who visits the food court every morning, to a local mum raising her family with Casuarina at the core of their daily life, to a young athlete chasing dreams. These stories come to life through striking visuals, short films, and still photography.
“Going North exists to tell stories that feel like home – stories with heart, depth and cultural meaning,” said the Going North team. “Collaborating with Casuarina Square on Your Cas, Your Way was a chance to showcase the vibrancy and spirit of our community in a way that’s proudly local.”
The campaign will roll out across digital channels, social media, and within the centre itself, with additional community-led initiatives and activations to follow throughout the year.
#U-Turn22 Brightens the Walls of Casuarina Square
#U-Turn Brightens the Walls of Casuarina Square

12 December 2022
Casuarina Square has partnered with Anglicare NT and Proper Creative to brighten the centre with an entertaining and colourful mural near the Woolworths entrance.
Proper Creative’s artist Caleb Dude has been working alongside a talented group of kids as part of Anglicare NT’s #U-Turn program to bring to life a beautiful design that represents the good and bad of NT’s seasons in a comedic and light-hearted way.
#U-Turn is part of the Territory Families Housing & Communities ‘Back on Track’ initiative, supporting young people between 8 and 17 years of age by providing positive pathways that divert young people from the youth justice system and work with young people to develop skills and tools they can take into adulthood. The murals created by #U-Turn allow these young people to create something they are proud of while also giving back to the community.
#U-Turn Manager Phil Coyle expresses that “The concept of being in the shopping centre with the chance to be noticed doing positive things in the community worked well for some of the young people.
“When the young people saw passers-by pay attention to the artwork it encouraged them to try as hard as possible and they seemed to take genuine pride in the finished piece.”
“Two young lads appeared to develop a deeper understanding of what it takes to complete a high-level piece of mural art and seemed to respect the process it involves.”
Casuarina Square’s Centre Manager, Polly Lamond, has said “Casuarina Square is constantly seeking new and exciting ways to engage in our community and provide meaningful support to organisations such as Anglicare NT, so they can continue running programs and initiatives that positively influence the lives of people in our community.”
“We hope this program not only brightens the walls of Casuarina Square but also brings attention to the #U-Turn program and the accomplishments of these young people.”
Cas sponsors PINT Junior Football Club
8 August 2022
Casuarina Square, under the new ownership of Sentinel Property Group, is sponsoring the PINT Junior Football Club.
The NT’s largest shopping centre is focused on developing new partnerships and supporting outreach programs to assist the NT community in its continual growth.
In line with this, Casuarina Square hosted a radio competition on Mix 104.9 where listeners could nominate a local NTFL junior team to win a $5,000 sponsorship. PINT Football Club was chosen out of 10 teams nominated throughout the campaign.
PINT Football Club President, Spencer Harvey said, “The sponsorship will go towards continuing the Free Registration program into the 2023 season and creating more access for kids to play and learn this great game.
“This sponsorship goes a long way in helping us grow our Junior Club.”
“We are inviting all the kids out there who have not had a chance to play before to come down and take advantage of the free registration.”
Casuarina Square Centre Manager, Polly Lamond, said “Casuarina Square aims to be a true, local community partner and we are proud to support a local sporting club like PINT Junior Football Club.
“I hope this sponsorship will inspire and help young people become active in sports and the community.”
