The Thong Tree

The Christmas tree tradition, as we know it, has been part of festive celebrations for hundreds of years, with some taking on iconic status - think The Rockefeller Centre New York, Trafalgar Square, London, Galeries Lafayette Paris. In 2017, Australia finally make the list, with our 8.2 metre Christmas tree, made of thongs.

Territorians are known for doing things differently, so it should come as no surprise that the traditional Christmas tree has been flicked, or flipped, in an attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the tallest Christmas Tree made of thongs.
Constructed over seven nights and standing 8.2 metres tall, with a 2.4 metre base, the tree is made from 1,651 thongs!

Post Christmas, the thongs were individually taken down by hand, boxed up and will be donated to the Salvation Army.

A huge thank you to The Cotton On Group for thier donation of the thongs.
