Blue Skies and Dragon Flies: the Activewear Style Edit

There’s a lot to love about keeping an active lifestyle. Aside from the health benefits and social aspect, fashion is one of our favourite things about fitness! In Casuarina Square’s latest style edit with Darwin’s premier stylist Jo Moo, we’ve assembled this season’s top looks to get you from your gym class to coffee date.

Create the ‘ultimate’ functional gym wardrobe

Jo recommends starting with the basics: flattering black! Choose your preference for bottoms first, whether you prefer shorts, the ¾, 7/8 or full length tight, skort or slouchy pants – comfort is key.
Next, select a sports bra. For cardio or heavy movement exercises, opt for a fun top and supportive bra. For lighter workouts, crop tops can provide a cute strap detail that can be layered under loose, block colour tops for a chic edge.

TREND HINTS: When incorporating this season’s trends, turning to a tropical highlight can really step up your outfit. Think tropical floral prints with vibrant hues of magenta, purple, coral and emerald greens on a deep base of black – that will certainly make the colours pop!

You may also like to consider co-ordinating your footwear. If you’re packing colour into your apparel, balance it out with a plain shoe and switch up your laces to highlight your trending colours. A more basic clothing colour scheme will offer the perfect opportunity to showcase your favourite colourful kicks. Without a doubt, the latest Asics Nimbus Gel shoe will be an asset whichever way you go.

FOR THE BLOKES: As with the women’s fashion, starting with the basics is a good call. Choose black bottoms in whichever fit is most comfortable for you, and have fun experimenting with block colour or dual-tone singlets. Good shoes are essential, but they don’t need to be flashy! Do it the Darwin way – nail comfort and functionality first, and style will follow suit.

Get ahead with winning running gear

You’ll stand out from the crowd crossing the finish line in these hot running looks! The current season’s styles prove that vivid, bright colours are a winner, with neon yellow making a real statement this season. At Casuarina Square, we’re also loving the Garmin Forerunner 35 watch – the perfect performance monitor to accompany any running outfit. Whether you’re dressing for marathon day or simply padding out your wardrobe for your morning jogs, looking and feeling great is easy.

Mind, body and style

Why not embrace Darwin’s beautiful, tropical environment by incorporating it into your routine? Nature is the perfect tonic to replenish the mind, body and soul – breathe deeply as you feel the cool, gentle breeze of the dry season on your face. When dressing, choose functional fabrics that offer ease of movement, comfort and flexibility. Cool blue tones and crisp whites will provide a sense of calm while giving subtle nod to nature.

Top-of-your-game accessorising

When it comes to outdoor fitness, good eyewear is essential. Consider choosing sunglasses that are specifically designed for sport – they’ll be the most comfortable and fit for purpose. If you live near the water or enjoy spending time at the beach, polarized sunglasses will be handy for reducing the glare coming off the water. Stuck for styles? The timeless and classic aviator will always be on trend. It’ll also enable you to incorporate fashion and functionality into your look.

Technology is often underrated as an accessory, too. The latest in fitness technology can allow you to monitor your individual performance in a way that inspires and motivates you to reach your goals. After all, isn’t ‘inspiration’ what style is really about?
